Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the new school year! We hope things are beginning to settle down and that you are making progress on the many challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the social justice issues that our nation is facing.  We are excited to share the specifics of our first growth opportunity for the year.

We are thrilled to announce our first event of the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, September 15 from 2:00-3:45pm. We will kick off the year's first event with Heidi Hayes Jacobs as she leads a session entitled “Taking the Remote out of Remote Learning: Personalized Learning for Engagement”. In this session, Heidi will focus on specific strategies to engage learners and parents. She will share templates, tools, and language that has proven particularly effective at keeping our students focused and involved. She will share specific ways to recast learning tasks and unit design to deliberately involve students in their lives personally. Based on her extensive work in the field and writing, Dr. Jacobs will show how curriculum can be revised to cultivate digital literacy, media-savvy, and global competence whether online or on-site.

Dr. Jacobs helps educators make the transition from antiquated classroom practices to engaging innovative learning environments and her model for curriculum mapping is used throughout the world. Dr. Jacobs is the author of thirteen books, journal articles, online media, and software platforms. She is the President of Curriculum Designers, Inc. and is the co-author of the Learning Personalized blog.

Following Heidi, a panel of standout teachers who are successfully teaching in a hybrid environment will share best practices and strategies. If you would like to nominate one of your excellent teachers to serve on this panel, please send me the name as soon as possible. We are excited to learn from those who have successfully adapted to this challenging environment.

This opportunity will be open to all AATE members. AATE members are encouraged to forward this email to all teachers in their respective schools.  Interested participants will need to register for this event so that we can send the secure login link and password to those attending.

Hope to see you soon,

Connie
